Custom Kitchen Islands
The hardest-working square footage in your kitchen — designed and built around how your family actually cooks, eats, and gathers.
A kitchen island is the most impactful single feature you can add to a renovation. It is prep space, storage, seating, and the gathering point all at once. We design and build custom islands that fit your kitchen, your workflow, and your style — not a pre-made box that almost works.
What a Custom Island Can Include
Prep Space & Storage
Generous countertop for prep, surrounded by drawers for utensils, deep drawers for pots, dedicated cutlery slots, pull-out trash and recycling. We design storage to the inch, no wasted space.
Seating
An overhang for stools turns the island into the family hub. We size overhangs for comfortable knee room (12 inch standard, 15 inch generous) and recommend stool height based on counter or bar-top height.
Sink or Range
Moving the sink or cooktop to the island reorients the whole kitchen. You face the room (and your guests) while cooking. We handle the plumbing, electrical, and ventilation rough-ins as part of the renovation.
Butler’s Wing
For larger islands, a built-in beverage centre, wine fridge, microwave drawer, or coffee station turns the island into a true command center. Especially useful in open-concept kitchens that host often.
Statement Details
Waterfall countertops, contrasting cabinet colours, decorative legs, custom panelled appliance fronts, accent lighting underneath. The island is where designers do their boldest work — and where it pays off.
Sizing & Layout
A good island needs clearance: 42″ minimum on the cooking side, 48″ better. 36″ on non-traffic sides. If your kitchen is too narrow for a full island, we’ll suggest a peninsula or rolling worktable instead of forcing a too-small island that hurts flow.
Our Process
1. Use case. We start by asking how you cook, who’s in the kitchen, and what frustrates you about the current layout. The island answers a problem — we figure out which one first.
2. Design. CAD drawings and 3D renderings so you see the island in context with the rest of the kitchen before we build anything.
3. Build. Custom cabinetry, countertop fabrication, electrical and plumbing rough-ins, finish installation — all by our team.
Why Choose Moose Kitchen and Bath
We’ve built kitchen islands of every size and complexity, from compact condo islands to 12-foot statement pieces with seating for six. Our cabinetry shop and design team work together so the island is engineered for the loads (waterfall stone is heavy), the flow, and the way you actually live.
